Many Nokia mobile phones have a hidden mode to measure network details and to show battery temperature amongst other information and tests. The Nokia 3310 is known to have this mode built-in.
This mode can only be enabled via a special FBus, or MBUS cable; or in some cases over an infrared connection. You need to download some free software such as Gnokii, logomanager, or N-Monitor by Anderas Schmidt to activate this mode and connect the mobile with a FBus cable. See http://www.mwiacek.com/gsm/netmon/faq_net0.htm for full details on this hidden network feature mode.
